Check out the link for the full story. | Recognition from the Horace Mann League It was announced on January 5th that the Avenue Scholars Foundation was awarded the Outstanding Friend of Public Education Award for 2011 by the Horace Mann League of the USA.
The award is given annually to an individual, association or organization that has made a significant contribution to the improvement of public education and the students who attend public schools. The award will be presented to Dr. Ken Bird, CEO of the Avenue Scholars Foundation, at the annual meeting of the Horace Mann League on February 18, 2011 in Denver.
Dr. Bird is no stranger to the HML, having received the Friend of the Horace Mann League Award in 2003 as Superintendant of the Westside Community Schools.
The Horace Mann League was founded in 1922, and its mission is to strengthen the Public Schools of America. |
| Ralston Mentors make Wildewood Waves
Ralston senior Antonio Mata and other Avenue Scholar classmates recently helped Wildewood students work through some reading exercises as part of mentoring work with elementary school students.
As Maia Molina, another RHS senior mentoring at Wildewood described it, "I wish someone had helped me like we're helping them", she said. "When I started out at Ralston as a freshman, I didn't really have the easiest time reading, I didn't really love it. Now, I can't stop reading. I want to show these kids that reading is something they can love and something they can be proud of doing." Check out the link for the full story.
