The Avenue Scholars program, funded by the Bright Futures Foundation, is designed to provide intrusive support for students of talent and need through high school, college, and into the workforce.

Starting in the fall of 2009, Avenue plans to serve three area high schools.  Over the next five years, the Foundation projects partnering with as many as 15 secondary schools in Douglas and Sarpy Counties.

Avenue students are selected in the spring of their sophomore year and are served in their respective high schools as juniors and seniors by a fulltime Talent Advisor. The Talent Advisor meets 15-25 juniors and 15-25 seniors during a regularly scheduled class period.

Outside of the classroom, Avenue students and their families receive a wide range of academic, social and financial planning services.  Many of these are delivered at the Avenue Center, where students have additional contact time with their Talent Advisors, as well as regular access to tutors and mentors.  The Avenue Center -- specifically designed with young people in mind -- is also the location for a variety of special social activities, exclusive programs, and one-of-a-kind workshops.  Furthermore, it is the ideal place for Avenue students to connect with their Avenue peers from other schools.

Avenue students continue to receive highly individualized and comprehensive support throughout their post-secondary education.   For those attending a community college or vocational school, Avenue provides unique transitional support into the workforce or into a four-year public or private college program.

During the post-secondary years, an Avenue College Talent Advisor coordinates campus services, organizes academic and financial services, and plans special events and programs to enhance campus life for Avenue students.   In coordination with Avenue mentors and business partners, the Avenue Talent Advisor offers students career exploration opportunities, helps them develop a career path, provides subsequent job coaching and training, and assists in successful job placement.  In short, support for Avenue graduates continues until the student embarks on a successful career.
